LLM in Taxation.

Is the LLM in Taxation right for you?

If you’re a lawyer seeking advanced training in tax law, it is! Maybe you’re a recent law school graduate, maybe you’re looking at a mid-career shift in focus and specialization. Either way, the LLM in Taxation is your path to professional success.

Rigorous training leads to superior preparation.

BU Law’s LLM in Taxation has one of the most comprehensive curricula for advanced tax studies in the country. You’ll find classes that matter to today’s tax lawyer. Classes like tax technology, cryptocurrency, and more. You’ll also find faculty firmly grounded in the real world. When you graduate, you’ll have a deep understanding of the U.S. tax system, tax law, and tax procedures. And with that, well, there’ll be no stopping you.

Degree requirements.

The LLM in Taxation degree requires the successful completion of 24 credit hours, including five required courses. Full-time students must complete the degree requirements in two consecutive academic semesters; part-time students must complete the degree requirements in no more than four years.

Personalize your degree with concentrations and emphasis areas.

LLM students are free to specialize their learning according to interest through concentrations and emphasis areas.

LLM students can choose a concentration in estate planning by completing three required courses and three of nine electives. The estate planning concentration will be indicated on the transcripts of students who complete the concentration’s requirements.

Online or in-person? Part-time or full? The choice is up to you.

Whether you’re looking to earn your degree as a full-time online student, a part-time residential student, or a mixture of both, BU Law’s LLM program can make it happen.

Both online and in-person classes lead to the same degree and are taught by the same experienced faculty. The online option is ideal for domestic and internationally-trained tax lawyers whose jobs preclude them from attending our traditional on-site program option in Boston.

In-person classes are scheduled only during the late afternoon and evening hours to make it easier on working lawyers.

Residential students are also welcome to enroll in up to 6 credits of online course sections during their studies to accommodate course conflicts or any scheduling issues they face due to their professional or personal commitments.

Full-time students complete the degree program in two sessions, while part-time students may complete the degree in as few as four consecutive sessions or over the course of four years.
